Kenya Airways has announced the appointment of Chris Diaz to the position of director of marketing. Diaz joins the airline from BIDCO Group where he also served as marketing director

Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia have announced the expansion of their codeshare agreement to cover further destinations in Australia, Asia and Europe. Codesharing has been extended with immediate effect to all of Virgin Australia’s domestic destinations, offering SIA customers access to 32 Australian cities

easyJet has delivered a 27.8 per cent rise in annual pre-tax profits, reporting a record £317 million. The result was achieved despite a £182 million rise in fuel costs as revenue per seat increased by 5.9 per cent to £58.51

Qatar Airways has begun commercial services of its brand new Boeing 787 aircraft with Doha–Dubai becoming the debut route for the Dreamliner. The state-of-the-art aircraft is being deployed on four daily rotations between the two cities marking a new era for Middle East aviation as Qatar Airways is the Boeing 787 launch customer in the region

From December Singapore Airlines customers will be able to fly to the Greek cities of Athens and Thessaloniki through a code-share agreement with Star Alliance partner Aegean Airlines. Under the agreement, SIA will add its ‘SQ’ code to Aegean-operated flights serving the Greek capital Athens from Frankfurt, London, Milan and Munich, as well as to flights serving Greece’s second-largest city Thessaloniki from Frankfurt and Munich

SAS Scandinavian Airlines has signed new labour agreements with seven of the eight unions it is in negotiations with as it battles for survival. The carrier said last week it would shed 6,000 jobs as it sought to avoid bankruptcy

Virgin Atlantic has announced it has been offered all of the Heathrow short-haul remedy slots available following International Airline Group’s acquisition of bmi. Sir Richard Branson’s airline stated that its business case was based on one airline operating a package of remedy slots so it could mount a credible challenge to BA’s short-haul flying to Heathrow

The United Kingdom has been losing trade to other European countries for several years due to the lack of runway capacity in the south-east of England, argues the World Travel & Tourism Council. In response, the industry trade body has offered its support the “one hub or none” concept proposed by London Heathrow Airport.

Etihad Airways is keen to expand its network in the US, chief executive James Hogan has said. Hogan disclosed that the US specifically is among the highest performing regions across the airline’s global network, with an average 81 per cent load factor in 2012.

California based Virgin America and Air China have signed a new interline agreement which offers seamless travel on the networks of both carriers across their respective routes in North America and Asia.
